Professional Learning from Social Science Groups
National Council for the Social Studies Professional Learning: These professional learning opportunities include webinars, workshops, a live learning center, and other opportunities connected to the C3 Framework. Though there are differences between the C3 Framework and the Illinois Social Science Standards our standards in Illinois were closely based upon the C3 Framework and it’s inquiry based approach to social science education.
Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center: The Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center offers a variety of full-day and evening training sessions for elementary, middle, high school and college/university teachers and administrators. They also offer a three-day summer institute for educators. The 2019 Summer Institute is scheduled for July 2019 and is titled Teaching About Contemporary Genocide in the Classroom.
Library of Congress Professional Learning: These professional learning opportunities include online modules, webinars and workshops, summer learning institutes, grant information, and activities and videos that can be used to provide professional learning.
Facing History and Ourselves Professional Learning: Opportunities listed here include webinars, workshops, courses, and seminars. This site also provides access to a lending library and grant information.
Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History: Opportunities include professional development workshops, a master’s program and the ability to join (for free!) their Affiliate School Program to gain access to Teacher Seminars held every summer.
